The Drone Wars

Rolling Stone has a great piece on how America's use of unmanned drones is changing the way we go to war and conduct foreign policy. Made me think of Stahl's article and the idea that war is more like a video game and video games are more like war.

  1. Frontline did a great documatary involving the use of drones in Afghanistan. Really worth a look if you're interested in this issue.http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/kill-capture/

  2. Thanks for sharing the article John. It is interesting/scary to think about the power of such technology. The article boasts about the fact that the drone can do things that a human pilot would not be able to do such as hover and take photos. But, if the drone gets captured as it did, the captors are able to get all the information they want from it. If they capture a human, there is some chance the human will have tight lips and refuse to share any information. There is a clear downside to placing such technology in the field at the cost that others can take it and replicate the technology. If anyone is interested, I found a picture of the drone after the Iranians captured it - you can see it @ http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Middle-East/2011/1209/Downed-US-drone-How-Iran-caught-the-beast
